He has been carrying cards in a phone case or a folded bit of nylon since he was fourteen. This is the one he upgrades to, and the first thing in his pocket that somebody chose for him on purpose.
Every time he opens it, your message is right there. The engraving is cut into the leather rather than printed, so it reads the same in year ten as it does on the day you hand it to him. The leather darkens and softens as it ages and the words stay sharp.
