Seventy is far enough along that most gifts arrive as a category. Another sweater, another gift set, another thing to find a shelf for. What gets kept is whatever has his name on it.
This is a small object with a long life. It goes in a jacket pocket, in the glovebox, in a coat he has owned longer than some of his grandchildren, and it will outlast most of what he unwraps this year.
The label reads like a bottle laid down the year he was born and opened now. It is the same Vintage design we engrave on the 70th birthday decanter, so if he already has one, the two read as a pair.
